The complex is situated along the old connection road between Bruges and Ostend. On one side you will find
the historical Bruges (D'Hofstee is situated only at 7 km. from the center
of Bruges! Along a direct connection road to the center).
On the other side you will
find the coast with direct connection to the center of Ostend or the center
of Middelkerke (also at 7 km. distance). Back to the
top History of the complex D'hofsteeRestaurant-Hotel D'Hofstee
in Meetkerke already has quite a history. Two very old houses were rebuilt
in '68 and became a very famous dancing "De Karekiet" , extended
in '78 with a very stylish café "Up Stairs" on the first
floor. The life-work of father Lucien Cheyns en mother Nicole Paepe. Two
dynamic personalities well-known in the period '60-'80 around Bruges. In the mean time, D'hofstee became a very imposing complex. From october '94 on , the son Nicolaas took over business and started a grill restaurant and hotel. Restaurant-Hotel D'Hofstee is fully built after the fashion of a farmstead , where you can dine in a cosy, rural environment , away from all worries. Most of our food preparations are on the open fire in the dining room itself. You can see our open kitchen and watch all food preparations. Take our virtual tour if you want to discover yourself. All food preparations are on two open fires on the hearth you can see in our restaurant. As method for grilling, from the beginning we choose for the Argentinian system. We use a combination of oak-wood and beech-wood; food is grilled with the heath of the charcoal and is never directly burned by the flames which provides the remaining of the juiciness of the food. The fifty-fifty combining of the oak-wood and beech-wood provides a flavour, so typical for our dishes. Make your choice and try out our delicious and tender steaks, fillet purs, different kinds of skewers, spicy scampi skewers, ... and ribs which are served to you as you please. Without however forgetting the cream of the crop of the restaurant: the Côte à l'Os for two persons which is presented to you always in advance at table. This piece of 1400 grams will even appeal all the people who are tremendously fond of good food. Of course you may not forget the delicious eels which are served in cream or are baked. The contact with the friendly, jovial personnel, the smell of grilled meat and the playing of the flames are a spectacle in itself and determines the atmosphere. Ideally situated between the coast and Bruges with a total capacity of ca. 200 persons, D'Hofstee offers a lot of possibilities. Cosy dining with two, remains possible even in this large restaurant. But making reservations for larger groups are also possible, in a way that all members of the same group are dining on the same table. Private festivities are also possible in our rural veranda and our second dining room. After 14 years D'Hofstee has an extensive clientele and in summer period a lot of tourists visiting Bruges or the coast. The summer-pavement on the inner-court of D'Hofstee is in this period an extra trump. What can be more agreable than dining outside in the extensive Polders on a sunny day. Back to the top Feasts ? Reservation for large groups.Because of the hotel next to the restaurant, we are NOT specialised in organizing feasts and private festivities with dancing music. Whitout the music, reservation for large groups, such as banquets or company meetings are always possible, if wanted in our separate dining room. If you make such a reservation for groups above 20 persons, please make your choice of the menu on forehand. In this way, we can provide you fresh food and the best service. Back to the
